Future Cap AAV Calculator

If I had a dollar for everytime someone sayd “but the cap is going up” in response to obscene contract numbers or “$8.5M is going to be the new $6.5M” in a few years, I would be retired and this would be a real blog instead of this free garbage you all read.

There is no exact way to plot out values of players. The amount that players make can always be traced back to a comparative player, or the team’s needs, or past performances, but there is never a clear, scientific formula…until now?

Below is a link to a calculator that shows the values against future cap numbers a current contract is. For example, $8M is 9.09% of the $88M cap. While most players are looking at that and saying that 9.09% of the cap in two years ($104M) is $9.45M, that’s not how we see it against the $88M cap. We need to adjust our thinking that if a player signs 8x$9.45M, it’s not 10.74% of the cap forever. It’s actually the same as signing 8x$6.89M against the $88M cap. when taking into account that $9.5M will be a smaller and smaller percent of the cap going forward.

*Please note that cap projections beyond the 2027-28 season are estimates and may change.
