Takeaways From the Week
Late-period goals: In multiple games this week (and throughout the season for that matter), the Hurricanes have let in goals right at the end of periods as though we took our feet off the gas. This is one of those small things that can cost a playoff series where every goal matters so much more. Surely, it’s something that is being talked about in the days off before the season-ending back-to-back games.
Playoff Matchup Locked In: Carolina will play the Devils in the first round of the playoffs. I like this matchup because it should be easy, and I hate it for the exact same reason. This is SUCH a trap for the Canes but also provides us with the opportunity to sharpen the things we know we need to improve ahead of a deeper playoff run.
Looking Ahead
Blueline Questions: Morrow continues to play well standing in for Gostisbehere, but with the arrival of Nikishin and continued struggles in certain areas of our game, some questions begin to arise. The Canes now have a lot of options on the blueline and even more options to spice up the lineup and the power play.

I plan to write a lot more on what Nikishin’s arrival means, so stay tuned.
